CONTACT: Chad Williams Department of Transportation TELEPHONE: (850) 415-9504 POSITION LOCATED IN: Chipley, Washington County BIWEEKLY RECRUITMENT SALARY RANGE: $1,525.23 - $2,744.46 The primary duties and responsibilities of this position shall be associated with traffic signal system timing development and implementation, the preparation of traffic signal warrant and speed studies, as well as other traffic studies. SPECIAL NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES REGISTRATION AS A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA, PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 471 OF THE FLORIDA STATUTES. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of general Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technology, and/or traffic signal system technology, and/or other field technology system deployments. 2. Ability and willingness to develop, implement, and fine-tune traffic signal equipment and system timings in the field. 3. Ability to conduct computer modeling of proposed geometric, signal timing and phasing changes to quantify operational costs and benefits and to develop signal timing utilizing computer modeling and optimization programs. 4. Ability to prepare and/or review traffic studies in order to justify traffic operational improvements. 5. Skill in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications at an advanced user level. 6. Skill in the preparation of written documentation typically relevant to the engineering and technical fields. 7. Knowledge of the engineering and technical principles necessary to provide critical review of engineering documents and task products that are of a technical nature. 8. Ability to read, understand, interpret, and apply technical concepts, direction, guidance and practices that may be expressed in standards documents, standard specifications, and similar publications to real world situations. 9. Ability and willingness to travel in order to conduct field work or participate in statewide task teams, meetings, and training opportunities.
