Several questions related to generation of *.avi files:
1) I tried generating an avi file using the "Diamond Leading - atl" file, and I tested a couple of compression formats such as "Mircrosft video" and "Indeo" with "medium quality". The resulting file size of the 10-minute recording period was in the 1.5 Gb range. I was surprised with the file size. Is this normal? If so, how else can I downsize the file without cutting the recording time. 2) It takes upwards of 15 mins to 40+ mins to generate these *.avi files, for a bigger network that I have, it took 2.5 hours. Is the speed a function of the video card on the computer? 3) Can an avi file be generated from the SimTraffic module? Thanks Henry |

Further to my previous posting
Using Microsoft video, it took 15 minutes to generate the avi, the file size is 1.7gb Using Indeo, it took 40 minutes to generate the avi, the file size is approx. 300 megs. |

The AVI file size can be reduced by processing the file through a 3rd party encoder. Though we cannot endorse any particular tool yet, some users have used the Blaze encoder (www.blazemp.com) to convert their AVI files to MPEG. We will be improving the digital video in subsequent 3D Viewer releases.
As for SimTraffic, it currently does not generate digital video. John Albeck Trafficware |
