I use Synchro for 2-D models but do not have access to the 3-D viewer. Therefore, I do not know how involved the 3-D is. My question is if I have a 2-D Synchro model of an urban diamond interchange, how much time would it take to create a 3-D simulation of that interchange? I am interested in a ballpark figure of man-hours. A few minutes? A day? A week? I have no clue. Assume the designer has average knowledge and skill with the 3-D viewer and that the simulation will be of moderate detail.

Hi,
To create a basic 3D file, it won't take too long. To do this in SimTraffic, you go to Animate>Create-3D-Graphics-File. This will create a s3d file that can be opened with the 3D Viewer. The user of 3D Viewer then simply opens this file for a basic 3D view. The only tricky part is learning how to pan/zoom and navigate around the image. A more complex view would be to add trees, buildings, etc. from our list of 3d models. To do this, the user chooses an item and clicks a button to add the 3d image. The user can move this and rotate it around the network. Of course, the time depends on how many items. So, a basic 3D animation should take much time at all. But, adding features will take more time and depends on how much is added. Thanks, John. John Albeck Trafficware |
