I am trying to simulate operations at a signalized intersection on a state highway, with a side street that has a commercial driveway about 130 feet from the highway. The side street is one lane in each direction. The side street queues up and drivers generally do not leave a break in the queue to allow turns into the the driveway. So a single car waiting to turn left into the commercial area can generate a queue that extends back into the signalized intersection. Any ideas about how to model this? Thanks.

Hi Howard,
It sounds like a queue is formed at the signalized intersection and backs up to the unsignalized intersection. In reality, it is probably blocked some of the time, and other times drivers are more curteous and allow the left turner in (either or). In SimTraffic, it can be one or the other (block the intersection or do not block the intersection). SimTraffic uses gridlock avoidance logic, therefore it does not block the intersection. I don't think there is a good way with an unsignalized intersection to see what you want. Maybe put in a dummy signal at the driveway that will meter the left turns into the driveway? - John.
