There are three problems with Simtraffic that i've found. First, every once in a while it assigns a vehicle (especially a heavy vehicle) onto a wrong lane, which creates long back-ups eventually. Second, a right-turning vehicle would get stuck @ the point of merge and once stuck it can create long back-ups on the mainline. Third, a left-turning vehicle (while turning from the shared lane only) would not move even when it finds a gap.

Hi Michael,

There may be some solutions to some of these problems. First, you'll want to ensure you have the latest build. This can be downloaded from www.trafficware.com/download.htm. Note: a new build is on the way. This may be available in the near future so check for this. In fact, the new build is going to automatically check for a new build for you.

"First, every once in a while it assigns a vehicle (especially a heavy vehicle) onto a wrong lane, which creates long back-ups eventually."

Make sure that your external links are long enough. Vehicles need room to position. Next, make sure that vehicle volumes by FLEET balance. You might be getting some HV's that are entering mid-block. This may not give them ample time to change lanes. Finally, you can modify the lane change distances from the Synchro Link settings.

"Second, a right-turning vehicle would get stuck @ the point of merge and once stuck it can create long back-ups on the mainline."

If this is for a vehicle around a right turn island, it may be due to a short downstream link. If so, an error message may appear that indicates this when you launch SimTraffic. In this case, the right turn radius will need to be shortened or eliminated.

"Third, a left-turning vehicle (while turning from the shared lane only) would not move even when it finds a gap."

Hmmm, maybe a build issue? If a gap is present, the vehicle should turn. That is, if room is available on the downstream link. If you think this is a problem with the model, please do email us the file and we can fully investigate.

Thanks,

John.
