I am running a simulation for a corridor study. The simulation lasts for an hour with large traffic volumes. However, there are a large traffic volume difference (2,300 vs 2,800 vph) between the vehicle entry and the synchro input for the main stream directional flow. There is some upstream queue in one direction and no queue in the other. Is there anyone who can tell me how to make the "vehicle entry" more compatible with the synchro input?

Hi David,

It may not be possible to get the vehicles exited in SimTraffic equal to the volume entered in Synchro. The volume in Synchro is the demand volume. The exited volume in SimTraffic is the served volume, or capacity. It may be that capacity for the movement(s) has been reached.

You might try increasing the length of your external links first if you have a lot of denied entry vehicles. They must be allowed to enter at speed, or will be denied entry.

After that, you'll need to look at increasing capacity. That would be saturation flows. Note, saturation flows in Synchro are for Synchro only. To increase flow in SimTraffic, you reduce the Headway Factor (reduce the space between vehicles). But, be careful not to artifically increase capacity if it is not justified. You'd want rational to back up your mods.

Thanks,

John.
