Each of my .hst files are 700-800MB in size. Is there any way to make them smaller? Thanks.

Hi,
The size of the HST file is dependent on the size of the network, the number of vehicles and the simulation/seed times. So, the only way to reduce the size of the file is to reduce one of the above. As you can imagine, you should not change these parameters since it would also change your results. Thanks, John. John Albeck Trafficware |

I've noticed there is a definate size difference between simtraffic 5 and simtraffic 6. The network I'm working now, had .hst files in the range of 500-600MB in version 5. The same network (dressed up a bit with some of the nice curved links) now has .hst files in the range of 2.5-3.0 GB! GB!!!! the network has about 32,000 vehicles simulated over the course of an hour simulation. I can't see the curved links making this drastic a change. why is the version 6 .hst file 5x as big?
Thanks Eric Royer |

Hi Eric,
There isn't anything by design that would cause the history file to be this much larger. It could be some other underlying issue. For instance, maybe a curved link was created. This curved link may have changed the heading to an approach. This may then create a left or right turn that used to be a through. These left or right turns have much slower turning speeds, which could be creating congestion, hence much larger files. Do you observe any new congestion in your Synchro 6 file? Is it specific to a location? If it is what I describe above, you might relabel your approaches. Feel free to email me your Synchro (*.sy6 and *.sy7) files. I'll be happy to simulate these and see what might be the source of the problem. Thanks, John. John Albeck Trafficware |
