I have two intersections that are 300' apart with a SB dual left turn at the south intersection extending the entire length of the link. Vehicles at the upstream (north) signal want to use the leftmost through lane for downstream left turning only. If I code storage on the dual left turn lane, vehicles don't enter the left turn lane until they are halfway through the link therefore taking up valuable storage for through vehicles. Any suggestions to trick the intersection paths to allow upstream vehicles to use the leftmost through lane to go through or left? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Here are some things to try: * In Synchro, double click on the link between the nodes to bring up the Link Properties. Click on the SB Lane Change Dist button. If you reduce these values, vehicles will utilize the lanes more equally. Increasing the values will cause them to position further back, with less balanced lane flow. * You might add some through storage at the northern intersection. Go to the Lanes window for the northern intersection. For the through lanes, make this equal to the number of throughs plus left lanes at the southern intersection. (Make sure the storage for the southern intersection lefts is zero.)O Next, enter a storage length for the SBL at the northern intersection (even though SBL lanes doen't exist). For the number of storage lanes, enter 2. This will cause the 2 left through lanes to be in storage that will line up with the southern lefts. You might make this northern pocket very short.
