Hi
I am not sue whether I should have posted this message in synchro forum. we have a corridor consisted of signals that are coordinated and optimized. there is a driveway which is right turn exit and entry only in the southbound direction of the corridor. the northbound direction is not afected by this driveway. this driveway is modeled in synchro5 in such a way, it looks like another intersection. (node). so the original 1500' long link is now only 500' long link. (upstream signal and right only driveway). so the queue in the northbound direction is higher than the link length which is not the case. how should i model this? should i exclude the driveway? |

Yes, this driveway will impact how the measures are reported in SimTraffic (even though the driveway doesn't impact the flow). That is, the queue length for the NB direction will be limited to the length of the link approaching the intersection. So, if the link is 500', the queue reported on the link between the intersection and the driveway will not exceed 500'. Actually, it could be a little longer then 500' due to vehicles in the middle of the intersection.
If the driveway is insignificant, then you might eliminate it so it doesn't impact how the measures are reported. If you need to keep this in, then you might manually add the queue length for the NB intersection, plus that reported for the NB driveway. - John. John Albeck Trafficware |

Hi John
I actually excluded the driveway as you mentioned. But I personally think there should be a fix in this. How bad idea it is to change the link length of the direction that is not impacted by the driveway? Has the modelling of this situation in Synchro-Simtraffic 6 any different from Synchro-Simtraffic 5. Thanks and Regards jahid |

Hi Jahid,
You would not want to over-ride the distance for the direction not impacted by the driveway. In fact, SimTraffic will NOT use this over-ridden distance (it is only used to recalulate the travel time in Synchro). If you change this value by over 20%, SimTraffic will not run. Version 6 has not changed how this operates. As mentioned, you can still get the queue for the direction not impacted by the drive. However, it does require you to add two queues. Your comments are appreciated. These are all the things that we will consider for the future. Thanks, John. John Albeck Trafficware |
