I am running a model in Simtraffic. I am having instances where a vehicle will get to an intersection and stop moving. It is in the proper lane for the movement that it wishes to make, but will not move forward when it has the green light. Evenutally, this vehicle causes the roadway network behind itself to become gridlocked, as the other vehicles stop behind this first vehicle. The roadway is a multiple lane facility. What can be done to correct this problem?

Robert,
situations like the one you describe typically happen when short links are used. I would be happy to review your file, please send it to support@trafficware.com. Sincerely, Jeff Gerken |

Jeff,
Do you have suggestions that you could share. The files on this project can't be shared outside the project team. Thanks, Robert |

Robert,
I understand if you are unable to share the file. I would reference you to a previous discussion that may address your issues: http://trafficware.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5786041442/m/4871052241 Sincerely, Jeff Gerken |

Some things you may want to consider:
Like Jeff said, short links often cause problems. Eliminate any short links that may be near the intersection you are having trouble with. There are certain driver settings you may want to adjust. Based on the "lane change" link settings in Synchro, drivers may not change a lane when they need to, effectively freezing up the entire simulation. There are factors within SimTraffic to adjust this (in the Driver Settings), and you can also change the value in Synchro. If the driver going through the intersection in question needs to change lanes upstream, that vehicle will need enough distance to do so, otherwise it will just sit there until it has the room (which may be never, based on certain settings). If you have any sort of weaving, merging, or diverging condition, you really want to go and adjust these values carefully to tweak your simulation. |
