will changes in lane width (increasing and decreasing) make any difference in queue calculation/general simulation? if yes, can it be major difference?

Hi Jahid,
The Lane width will impact the result you get in both Synchro and SimTraffic. For Synchro, adjustments in lane width change the saturation flow rate. The sat flow is used in the calculation of the queues. In SimTraffic, a lane width adjustment impacts the headway factor. This factor changes the spacing between vehicles (resulting flow) and will impact the queue lengths. It can be a major difference for both models. It really depends on how your current conditions. If you are nearing or are above capacity, small changes to inputs (lane width), can have a dramatic impact on delays and queues. However, if you are well under capacity, changes to inputs may not have as big of an impact. Thanks, John. John Albeck Trafficware |
