I created a report for delay in a network. At one intersection I have a tee intersection with left turns about 1,000 vph while the right turns number 5. My lane configuration is 2 left turn lanes and 1 right lane with the left turn lanes 500' long and generating from the right lane. When I turn on the 'Show Static Graphics' under the Graphic pull down, it shows delays in excess of 60 seconds for this right turn movement. The SimTraffic report also shows this delay of almost 200 seconds. The simulation shows the intersection operating very well over a 60 minute period. Is there a rationale for all of this? |

Hi Jonathan,
It is difficult to say 100% without the file, but keep in mind that the volume is very low and the delay report is delay per vehicle. So, the denomintor is only 5 vehicles. Next, I'll guess one of two things is happening for the right turns. First, the left turns are backing up and blocking right turns. This in turn delays the right turn vehicles (the 5 vehicles). Second, it could be due to denied entry right turns. Vehicles that are approved to enter, but cannot enter the link at the desired speed will be placed in denied entry (look for this value in the report). These denied entry vehicles are counted in the delays. Try extending the link length if this is an external link. Thanks, John. John Albeck Trafficware |
