Hi,
I am running a simulation in simTraffic and trying to find out the average time it requires for a vehicle to clear the study area. However, I don't understand what the parameters in the report means, for example: vehicles entered, vehicles exited. entered where? exited where? total travel time? from where to where? etc. I have about 1800 outbound vehicles, but it's only showing 300 entered, 302 exited. Can someone help me with these please. Basically my case scenario is this: I have a 6000 seat sports arena that holds special events such as hockey games that occur at night. Trip generation indicates that approximately 1800 outbound trips will clear out within 30 minutes after the game. I am trying to find out how long does it take on average for a vehicle to clear the site. Is there any way that I can approach this in SYnchro / Simtraffic? Thanks for any help. |

Hi Casey,
SimTraffic is a link-node based simulation model. So, measures of effectiveness (MOEs) are gathered on a link by link basis. So, the vehicles entered are the number that enter the link. The vehicles exited are those that exit the end of the link. The travel time is the time traveled on the specific link. For instance, say you have link 1-2 in the EB direction. When you look at the report node 2 EB, this is link 1-2. If you only have 300 exited, it could be a small portion of the run. You will want to go to Options>Intervals-and-Volumes and enter a 60 minute simulation period. You'll also want to review the SimTraffic Help topic "Measures of Effectiveness". This will give the full details on the model measures. In your model, the denied entry vehicles could become important. "Denied Entry is a count of vehicles that are unable to enter a link due to congestion. Denied Entry includes external links and mid-block vehicle sources. The report lists the number of vehicles denied entry at the start and end of the period. This is useful to see if congestion is getting worse or better. Denied Entry can also be used to determine the Network Throughput. In a congested network lower values of Denied Entry indicate increased throughput." Thanks, John. John Albeck Trafficware |

Hi John
Thanks for the reply. I have another question. Is there any way to isolate a vehicle when i am running simTraffic and create a report for just that vehicle? I am trying to determine the time it takes for a vehicle to run from the beginning or a corridor to the end. Thanks. |

Hi Casey,
There is no direct way to do this. You could click on a vehicle and track it noting the time on the clock when is started and ended. The problem would be that you don't ultimatly know where a vehicle will end up. But, when the vehicle makes a wrong turn, you could click on a vehicle beside this one that is going in the right direction. Thanks, John. John Albeck Trafficware |
