Hi, I am trying to simulate a freeway link with different alternatives of
1. small acceleration lane 2. No acceleration lane and other lane configurations ! Are there any key tips to improve the simulation? Also I need to know, how I can specify acceleration parameters on ramp links Can someone give ideas ? Thank you very much Narasimha |

Hi Narasimha,
There is a topic in SimTraffic that will help you with the coding of freeway merge and diverge sections. To find this, bring up the help file. On the search tab, search on "Freeway". For SimTraffic, vehicles will accelerate based on their driver and vehicle parameters. As a user, you are generally just changing the link speed and turning speeds. The turning speeds are very important. The default right turn speed is 9 mph. You don't want to use this default speed (found in the Synchro Lane window) for vehicles entering the freeway. Hi John,
Thanks for the tip. It improved the simulation a lot. But a key problem which I see is that a vehicle from freeway tries to get into the acceleration lane. This vehicle blocks the whole freeway and also the ramp. Any ideas in solving this ? Narasimha |

Hi Narasimha,
I'm glad to hear that the simulation is getting closer. This could be a number of things. But, my guess is it is related to acceleration lane length, and positioning distances. These positioning distances can be changed (in the Synchro link settings). Increasing these values will make it less likly for a vehicle to move into this acceleration lane from the freeway. It might also be something that I haven't put my finger on. If the above is not the issue, please do email me the Synchro file (*.sy7). Indicate to me the location of the problem. I'll be happy to look at this file to see if there is another issue that could be addressed. Thanks, John. John Albeck Trafficware |
