I am modeling an unsignalized t-intersetion. The north/south through movements are free and the side street is stop controlled with a channelized right turn. Simtraffic is reporting queues for the through movements even though they are free. Any thoughts?

Hi,
SimTraffic will mark a queue when a vehicle has stopped behind vehicles. The maximum queue could be a rare event and shouldn't be used for design purposes. You'll also want to review your average queue (average of 2 minute maximums). The queue could be due to lane changes. Vehicles could enter a link in this lane, need to get over, stop behind some vehicles and get marked in a queue. Here are some suggestions: * If this is an entry link, increase the length of the link to give vehicles room to position well upstream of the intersection. * Include a right turn storage * Decrease the downstream lane change distances Finally, it would be a good opportunity to check your build. Use the command Help->About. Check this against the latest build shown at www.trafficware.com/downloads.htm. John. John Albeck Trafficware |
