Saving the files to the local C: drive is the only thing that I am aware of. You just need to remember to copy the source files back to your server so they get backed up.
Depending on your network, doing this may significantly speed up SimTraffic as well.

Ha ha ha welcome to my world. I was having HST files upwards of 1.3 GB each in version 6. I think that all the curved links increases the amount of history file space. I never run simulations over the network; the transmission speed over the network always slows down my simulation recording. Running the sim on a local hard drive always runs faster. As far as storage space for archiving the history files, I've gone to DVD burning. Saving every possible MOE (by approach, lane, and movement) as a txt file for archive purposes is another option, though of course you won't have the simulations themselves. I've found its not practical to save such huge history files over the long term. better to have the data in another form. Acrhive the network itself, though...just not the HST files.
