Are there any types of projects where it would make more sense to use Corsim rather than Simtraffic? or vice versa?

Thanks
Eric

Well, Strictly speaking, Synchro/Simtraffic is not a freeway model. The driver behavior speed bands from NETSIM are the same as Simtraffic, but the ones from FRESIM are not. Also, I believe Simtraffic merging behavior is not calibrated to freeway conditions. Car Following may also be different.

A lot of users, myself included, would love for synchro to add this capability - of including freeway analysis and simulation tools. As yet, all we've gotten is a "density" MOE you can sort of use for freeways.

I agree with Eric Royer 100-percent. I'd stick with Synchro/Simtraffic if your network doesn't have freeway segments, but switch to something else if it does. It's easier to explain why you used one program over another than to explain why you used two. Still, Synchro is good for tweaking the timings you'll put in CORSIM or other programs.
