I have been having difficulty with the simulation of double left-turn lanes. The problem is that the vehicles are often simulated as severely underutilizing the outer of the 2 left-turn lanes. I have tried messing with the mandatory distance, etc.. and have not been successful to any extent at fixing the problem.
Here is a simple example. What if I am approaching a T-intersection from the stem, which is a 2-lane roadway. The single approaching lane will become the right-turn lane, and a double left-turn lane will be provided starting from 1000 feet back. What would be the proer mandatory and positioning distance settings (1 and 2)?
In Synchro, go to Options>Map-Settings. Choose the option to turn on Intersection Paths. Then, go to the Simulation Options window. For the left turn try different Lane Alignment options to see which works best for you. This will realign the paths through the intersection.
This might help you. First go to Options-Map Settings-and check the Intersection Path Box. From this you'll see the path of each turning movement/lane. Then go to Simulation Settings - and play with Lane Alignment. Consult the Version 7 Manual Page 9-2 to guide you how Lane Alignment works
This might not apply to your situation, but... I cases where I've had this happen usually there is a lane drop after the turn? This is where the lane change distances need to be altered.
