Hi,
I have a question regarding what Synchro would do/use when users provide un-consistent info in in different fields under LANE SETTINGS window. I have an approach where there is no LEFT turn coded in the "Lanes and Sharing" field, but some volume was coded Traffic Volume field, right underneath the left Turn field. Would Synchro use this volume (illegal turn) into its calculation? I have noticed in the Map view, Synchro has gone ahead to update the lane configuration (from thru to shared lane when left/right turn was change from 0 to something else). Therefore, the lane configuration between the Map window and Lane Settings window is not always showing the same thing due to this data discrepancy. I did not aware of this when I did the volume inputs through using File>>Merge. Thanks, mtran |

Hi mtran,
Yes, this is by design in Synchro. That is, if you code a volume, it will attempt to share with the adjacent lane. This allows you to code some situations that are not included in hte Lanes and Sharing drop downs. For instance, say you have a 5 leg intersection. Assume the first right turn is not allowed since this is a one-way street toward the intersection. Now, say the hard right (R2) is allowed and shared with the through. If you code a shared through/right in the lanes and sharing, this will create a lane the wrong way on the one-way link. So, you leave the lanes with JUST a through (show now shared right). Don't code a R volume but do code a R2 volume. Synchro will assume this R2 is shared with the adjacent through lane. Thanks, John. John Albeck Trafficware |
