Hi,

While i was modelling a T junction with 3 through and one left turn in the south bound approach the right most lane in the through group was appearing as short lane. I checked all setting for flaring of that lane group but there was no short lane.

Any help on this matter will be highly appreciated.

Check the lanes on the southbound approach.

It looks like you may have a right-turn lane with some storage length coded in the southbound direction. Since there isn't a right turn lane, Synchro interprets that to mean the you want the storage length applied to your first thru lane. Clean out the southbound right turn lane settings and you should be fine.

PS This is a great trick if you are intentially trying to add an extra lane at an intersection.

Yep, Mark hit it here. As is, the storage for the SBR and NBL will be hidden since there is no west leg. My guess is that this intersection was coded as a 4-leg intersection at one time.

Draw a dummy link on the west. Check the NBL and SBR storage lengths now (delete or modify as needed). Once you clear this up, you can delete the dummy link.

Thanks,

John.

As an alternative to creating a dummy link for the west leg, you can also just assign the "Southbound" approach to "South-East Bound" (by right-clicking up by the directional arrows). Once you change it to SEB instead of SB, you'll see that 3 "soft-right" turn lanes and a single "soft-left" turn lane. A storage distance is probably coded for one of the soft-right turn lanes. If you delete that entry and change the number of storage lanes to 0, then all three lanes will continue as far back as the next intersection. After making these changes, you can change the SEB approach back to SB, and the changes you have made will stay.

I'e used this trick quite a few times, its a good one; another use is to code in a 2nd lane at an approach, when there is only one recieveing lane, at a stop controlled T-intersection and no left turn lane, we were using it to simulate the effects of drivers passing on the right shoulder when a driver is stopped waiting to make a left turn.

John, something to not for future versions is the ability to code in these right turn storage in thru lanes, without resorting to coding in a false link. That way the right turn column won't be hidden.
